So Ellie Dunn tagged me in this blog event, (and many more have tried, so I suppose I need to answer the questions…) So let’s get talking about a WIP I have on the back burner!
What is your working title of your book?
Happily Ever After
Where did the idea come from for the book?
A combination of my love of fairy tales and horror, and probably some residual angst left over from high school.
What genre does your book fall under?
This is a tricky one, because the structure is fairly similar to the type used by chick lit, but there is a definite horror vibe as well. I love to combine ideas and genres, and this is definitely one of those Frankenstein plots.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I really didn’t have anyone in my head while writing it, and I kind of shy away from trying to cast this book…I like it because really anyone (from a star to an unknown) could probably play a lot of the roles – it just depends on how far they’re willing to go without making the characters into caricatures.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A librarian with a childhood love of fairy tales and who is ruled by the memory of her dead mother deals with her quest to find her ‘one true love’ in her own special way.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I’ll probably send to a few publishers once I have the book fully polished and ready. I have a few ideas, but nothing definite yet.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Probably two or three months – I usually finesse and add and subtract while writing my first draft, so it’s a little hard to gauge a time frame.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I think people could compare it to Carrie, but I think it’s a stretch. I was more intent on writing a dark chick lit story (or a feminine horror story) with characters that you could relate somewhat to…and then be horrified that you’re relating to them.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I’ve been intrigued by the idea of female leads in horror for a while, plus trying to write a different type of horror story, something that people wouldn’t quite expect. I got to thinking about all the disappointments I’d suffered in school and what it means to be a single woman as you age, and I was off!
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
That all the characters have valid, emotional reasons for doing what they do. There are several stories going on…several characters are going on journeys that kind of mirror that of the lead character. I would hope it makes people really think about the things they feel and reasons why they act the way they do to other people.

Bobby Nash – Bobby is one of those authors that I’m in awe of. He’s got so much going on, and into so many different things, that it just blows my mind. Definitely curious as to what he has to say.
Janet Eckford – I love how easily she writes the macabre, and she’s so imaginative! I’m new to her writing and I really want to see what else she has in store…
