To write horror? Or to write paranormal romance?

Maybe I should do a little bit of both?

These days it’s a little hard to decide what I am going to create. In the beginning of my writing career, I was writing horror. I went for gore and surprise with the development of the characters trying to figure out what was going on with the plot and how the horror elements fit into the storyline. In college, those stories would get me strange looks from teachers and students. These days I still get strange looks, but those mostly come from my dogs. I’ve found a group of people who get the horror element in my books and my weird kind of humor as well, but that’s a different story.

After I had my first book accepted by a publisher, it was categorized as erotic romance. That in itself was a little bit of a shock, but I wasn’t going to knock it because hey I had actually had my dream come true. I had gotten published. If the publishing company, wanted me to say the sky was green I would have done it. As the years went on, I distanced myself from writing horror or any kind of overly gory violence in books because some publishers requested that. In other books it just didn’t seem to go with the storyline. However, over time that small itch started up in the back of my mind. Something had to be done about that.

So six years into my writing career and…a lot of books published later…I began to wonder where I was I going in my writing. Many other friends of mine write across genres. I figured why can’t I do that too? Not that I don’t enjoy romance or erotic romance, but writing sex does get kinda old after a while. Writing horror I don’t have to focus on the romance in the story. I can just keep to the events and figuring out what action is more horrifying to hopefully creep out the reader. As long as it creeps me out too.

While I do find it easier to write horror, I am finding that it really is just walking a fine line between horror and paranormal romance. At least for me. So eventually I figure that I’ll combine the both and make up my own category.

Crymsyn is the author of a slew of paranormal, romance, erotica books. Her worlds are filled with luscious gods, brooding vampires, shifters who aren’t all that shifty, and a few cheesecake gods. A hunky angel of death is hovering too. Her favorite saying is “If it has fangs, it’s my friend.”

Her experiences as a psychic have given her a lot of material to use in her books. She currently resides in Charlotte, NC with her hubby and her two dogs. Her guilty pleasures are horror movies and peanut M&Ms.
